Duke energy to clean up around Lenoir

Duke Energy has started clearing rights-of-way along some of their electrical lines in Lenoir and Caldwell County. The work should be done by the end of the month.

"We have a responsibility to deliver power safely and reliably," said Robin P. Nicholson, Duke Energy District Manager, Government and Community Relations. "Trees around our lines are a major contributor to customer outages, so we must trim the right of way from time to time. Our process is to remove any natural growth that could pose a danger to the power lines and public safety. By removing potentially dangerous fire and electrical shock hazards, we are helping keep power on in the community and the property around our lines as safe as possible."

To inform customers before starting work on their property, Duke Energy's standard method is to attempt to contact the customer at least 48 hours prior to any work taking place, Nicholson said.

"We knock on the door of the customer and leave a door hanger if no one is at home with contact information for the General Foreman that will be leading the crews in the area," Nicholson said. "This will allow the customer to contact the foreman should they have questions regarding the work."

Nicholson said contract crews will be clearing in the following general locations and they should be finished by the end of  March.
