The Caldwell County Planning Department recently completed the work required to participate in FEMA’s Community Rating System, a voluntary incentive program that reduces flood insurance premiums for property owners of the unincorporated area of Caldwell County.
Planning Technician Kim McGee completed all of the work required to participate in the program, which provides a 5% premium reduction for 76 properties with floodplain insurance in the unincorporated area.
Caldwell County has participated in the program for 22 years and is the only local government in the Unifour to participate.
According to FEMA’s website, the program goals are to:
“1) Reduce and avoid flood damage to insurable property
2) Strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program 3) Foster comprehensive floodplain management.”
